Thank you to all of those who participated in this year’s design competition! It could not have been a greater success. Last Friday we received hundreds of entries from more than 40 countries around the world, and we’ve finally finished sorting and cataloging everything. Between July 1 and August 1, the jury will be reviewing the entries.
Once the $15,000 prize winning entry has been determined, we will be posting the designs at this blog—about three per week during the autumn. So stay tuned right here starting this August for some ideas that give a new interdisciplinary relevance to public art and open a window onto the future of sustainable cities everywhere!
HI,
Would it be possible to know how many proposals have been recieved??
Thank you and congratulation for the initiative
Approximately 300 entries were received from 40 countries, from top universities, from established artists, from leading architecture firms, electrical engineers and scientists. It is gratifying to see that there are so many people who care so deeply about the health of our natural environment and the beauty of our constructed one.
What would probably be more fair would be having not a single grand prize, but multiple levels of commendation, that would acknowledge the breadth of ideas that this great competition has thrown up.
The cash prize may be restricted to one if that is how the logistics work, but opening up the field of commended entries would be much more beneficial to both organisers, participants, and various interested parties.
Do hope the jury would also appreciate this line of thought. Looking forward to it !
Thanks Jude.
We agree with the idea of multiple levels of commendation. The jury process will be such that there will be accounting for 2nd, 3rd, and subsequent place results and these mentions will be given when the projects are posted. We continue to pursue sponsorship and private donations.
With regard to the even more important reward of seeing the work(s) constructed, our efforts to that end will include the winning entry, but we will also include many of the best and most pragmatic designs as we dialog with investors and municipalities towards implementation. In great part, it will be the decision of the owner entity which design they would like to own and build.
We intend to bring the works to galleries and publication, also forms of reward and recognition to the credit of the unbelievably amazing ideas that have been put forth this year and are sure to be put forth in years to come.
As we post the hundreds of high-quality entries here on this blog later this summer and throughout the fall, they will be picked up and disseminated by other media outlets. We hope that all will see this too as a reward and recognition of their excellent efforts.
