Unmodified vegetable oil can be used in some older diesel engines or in newer engines that are modified for the purpose. Vegetable oil can be either waste oil from uses like food frying (WVO) or straight vegetable oil (SVO) also known as pure plant oil (PPO). In many cases, there is a greater wear and tear on the engine parts from 100% vegetable oil use. This can be mitigated by burning conventional diesel at the beginning and the end of the cycle and/or by cutting the vegetable oil with conventional diesel.
