These solar cells can utilize any of the various PV material designs but whereas a flat panel solar cell will typically reflect 20%-30% of the light that strikes its surface, a 3D cell creates a structure to recapture the reflected light onto adjacent PV surfaces, thus increasing the efficiency of the system over the same surface area installation.
