Organic PV can be manufactured in solutions that can be painted or rolled onto proper substrate materials. They can be produced at very low cost in comparison with other PV technologies because they can take advantage of roll-to-roll production techniques in which the organic photovoltaic system is “printed” onto a long continuous sheet of substrate material.
Current OPV technology has a conversion efficiency of only around 8%. But, similar to DSSC, its low cost of production (and its good performance in lower level and indirect light) makes it an attractive option in the marketplace.
