biomass, Waste to Energy (WtE)
The use of non-recyclable waste for combustion (incineration) to generate electricity or (less common) for processing into methane or similar fuel.

WtE is generally preferrable to landfill waste disposal. Limestone scrubbers can greatly reduce the emission of harmful chemicals from incineration, and while there is CO2 released, the effect of this is less than the more toxic greenhouse gases that are produced by landfill offgassing of methane, even if much of that methane is captured.
